L7 - TIME

The word sâ-at (ساعت) in Persian has several meanings.  It can mean Hour or a segment of time. It can also mean Watch (instrument to measure time) 


What is the time: sâ-at chand ast?  ( ساعت چند است ؟)
Or
What is the time: che sâ-atist? (چه ساعتی است ؟)




1 o'clock: sâ-at-e yek (hour 1)

How do you say the time from 1am - 12 noon?

You can use the same pattern for any number by simply adding ' om or v' vom as for the
numbers 1 to 10.

Open the Farsi Bible to mazmoor ( مزمور ) (Psalm) 119 or pages 10 & 11 of the âshenâii bâ taâlime ketâbe moghaddas (آشنایی‌ با تعالیم کتاب مقدّس ) Bible Teach Book in Persian and Read out loudly the numbers you recognise.

Write them out on Flashcards. How many cards do you have?
Practise with these cards daily until you can recognise the numbers automatically.

Numbers in Persian are written the same as in English from left to right.

Note: you will see the character ‘â’ in this document. This is to indicate an ‘a’ sound that is like the ‘a’ in ‘arm’ (as opposed to the ‘a’ in ‘cat’). The letter ‘i’ indicates an ‘ee’ sound as in ‘meet’.

Learn the numbers 1 – 10 off by heart.
Use the following method:
Throw a ball (or a scarf or orange) into the air.
While the ball is up in the air, call the number out loud.

Find an ‘Expert’ (Native Persian Speaker). Ask them to open to different chapters in the Bible or Enjoy Life (el) brochure. Say the numbers out loud in Farsi & they can listen forcorrect pronunciation.
